CONSUMER PRICE INDEX

Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - July 2005)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR recorded at their corresponding July levels of 120.8 and 124.6 were higher than their respective last month?s levels of 120.1 and 124.4.

The slight weather disturbances experienced in some parts of the country along with the insufficient supply of fresh eggs in the wet markets generally pushed up prices of FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

The month-on-month inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR were 0.6 percent and 0.2 percent respectively.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR respectively picked up to 140.1 and 134.3 in July from their corresponding June levels of 138.2 and 133.2. The lean season pulled up prices of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR. Likewise, the increase in tuition fees and the transportation fare hikes implemented in many regions including the NCR affected prices of non-FBT items in the two areas.

The monthly rate of change of the seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR and AONCR climbed to 1.4 percent and 0.8 percent respectively in July from 0.8 percent and 0.1 percent in June.
