Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) and Non-FBT Items
(NCR and AONCR - September 2007)

  1. CPI of Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT): National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly recorded at 133.3 and 136.5 in September were higher than their respective August levels of 132.2 and 135.5.

The dry spell that caused the delay in the harvest of palay at the northern part of the country limited the supply of rice in the markets. The series of typhoons experienced last month also effected significant decreases in the supply levels of various vegetables in the trading points. These seasonal factors generally pushed up prices of FBT items in the two areas relative to the expected trend.

The month-on month inflation of the seasonally adjusted CPI on FBT items in NCR and AONCR correspondingly increased to 0.8 percent and 0.7 in September from last month’s growth rates of 0.7 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.

  2. CPI of Non-FBT items: National Capital Region (NCR) and Areas Outside the National Capital Region (AONCR)

The seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR decreased to 154.3 in September from 154.6 while that for AONCR remained at its August level of 146.8. The lean month of September pulled down prices of non-FBT items in NCR. However, this seasonal factor raised prices of non-FBT items in AONCR relative to the expected trend.

Compared to last month, prices of the seasonally adjusted CPI of non-FBT items in NCR dropped to -0.2 percent in September from 0.1 percent. Meanwhile, prices of non-FBT items in AONCR generally remained stable as it posted zero growth during the month.
