HIGHLIGHTS

The estimated palay production for the period of July to September 2024 based on standing crop as of 01 September 2024 may be lower than the July to September 2023 actual estimate. However, the updated corn production based on standing crop as of 01 September 2024 may be higher than the actual harvest in the same period of 2023.

PALAY           
1. As of 01 September 2024, the estimated palay production based on standing crop for July to September 2024 may decrease to 3.35 million metric tons or by 11.9 percent from its actual output of 3.80 million metric tons in the same period of 2023. The updated estimate of palay production for the period July to September 2024 as of 01 September 2024 further declined by 1.2 percent from its estimate of 3.39 million metric tons as of 01 July 2024. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

2. The estimated harvest area based on standing crop for the period July to September 2024 may decrease to 796.28 thousand hectares or by 14.1 percent from the 926.92 thousand hectares of actual harvested area in the same period of 2023. Based on standing crop for the period July to September 2024, the yield per hectare of palay may increase to 4.20 metric tons or by 2.4 percent from the previous year’s same period yield per hectare of 4.10 metric tons. (Table 1)

3. As of 01 September 2024, about 310.78 thousand hectares or 39.0 percent of the 796.28 thousand hectares updated harvest area of standing crop have been harvested. This translates to palay output of 1.31 million metric tons. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Of the total area of 485.50 thousand hectares of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 September 2024, 16.5 percent were at the reproductive stage and 83.5 percent were at the maturing stage. (Figure 2 and Table 3)

CORN   
1. The estimated corn production based on standing crop for the period July to September 2024 as of 01 September 2024 may increase to 2.526 million metric tons or by 2.4 percent from its actual estimate of 2.47 million metric tons in the same period of 2023. Meanwhile, the updated estimate of corn production based on standing crop as of 01 September 2024 exhibited a decrease of 0.3 percent from the 2.533 million metric tons recorded estimate as of 01 July 2024. (Figure 3 and Table 4)

2. Harvest area based on standing crop for the period July to September 2024 may decrease to 806.36 thousand hectares or by 2.0 percent from the 822.40 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, the yield per hectare of corn may increase to 3.13 metric tons or by 4.3 percent from the previous year of the same quarter yield per hectare of 3.00 metric tons. (Table 4)

3. As of 01 September 2024, about 346.23 thousand hectares or 42.9 percent of the 806.36 thousand hectares updated harvest area of standing corn have been harvested, translating to a 1.07 million metric tons of corn output. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. Of the total area of 460.14 thousand hectares of standing corn yet to be harvested as of 01 September 2024, about 11.4 percent were at the reproductive stage and 88.6 percent were at the maturing stage. (Figure 4 and Table 6)
