Release Date:
Release Date: 2024-SSO-085

HIGHLIGHTS

Based on standing crop as of 01 May 2024, the estimated palay and corn production for the period of April to June 2024 may decrease its level compared with the estimate of actual harvest in the same period of 2023.

PALAY
1. As of 01 May 2024, the estimated palay production based on standing crop for April to June 2024 may decrease to 3.89 million metric tons or by 8.4 percent from 4.25 million metric tons actual production in the same period of 2023. The updated estimate of palay production for the period April to June 2024 as of 01 May 2024 exhibited a decrease of 0.4 percent from its estimate of 3.91 million metric tons as of 01 April 2024. (Figure 1 and Table 1)

2. The estimated harvest area based on standing crop for the period April to June 2024 may decrease to 892.40 thousand hectares or by 7.1 percent from 960.87 thousand hectares of actual harvested area in the same period of 2023. Based on standing crop for the period April to June 2024, the yield per hectare of palay may decrease to 4.39 metric tons or by 1.4 percent from the previous year same period yield per hectare of 4.42 metric tons. (Table 1)

3. As of 01 May 2024, about 568.03 thousand hectares or 63.7 percent of the 892.40 thousand hectares updated harvest area of standing crop have been harvested. This translates to palay output of 2.54 million metric tons. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Of the total area of 324.37 thousand hectares of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 May 2024, 38.6 percent were at the reproductive stage and 61.4 percent were at the maturing stage. (Figure 2 and Table 3)

CORN
1. The estimated corn production based on standing crop for the period April to June 2024 as of 01 May 2024 may decrease to 1.19 million metric tons or by 19.1 percent from its actual estimate of 1.47 million metric tons in the same period of 2023. Meanwhile, the updated estimate of corn production based on standing crop as of 01 May 2024 indicated a decrease of 0.6 percent from 1.20 million metric tons recorded estimate as of 01 April 2024. (Figure 3 and Table 4)

3. Harvest area based on standing crop for the period April to June 2024 may decrease to 347.70 thousand hectares or by 15.0 percent from 408.93 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of the previous year. Similarly, the yield per hectare of corn may decrease to 3.43 metric tons or by 4.7 percent from its previous year of the same quarter record yield per hectare of 3.60 metric tons. (Table 4)

4. As of 01 May 2024, about 183.09 thousand hectares or 52.7 percent of the 347.70 thousand hectares updated harvest area of standing corn have been harvested, translating to a 664.34 thousand metric tons of corn output. (Tables 4 and 5)

5. Of the total area of 164.61 thousand hectares of standing corn yet to be harvested as of 01 May 2024, about 2.9 percent were at the vegetative stage, 34.1 percent were at the reproductive stage, and 63.0 percent were at the maturing stage. (Figure 4 and Table 6)
