HIGHLIGHTS

Palay and corn production from January to March 2022 may increase based on data on standing crop as of 01 February 2022, from the estimated production of palay and corn in the period of January to March 2021

PALAY 

1. Based on standing crop as of 01 February 2022, the updated palay production for the period of January to March 2022 may increase to 4.64 million metric tons or by 0.2 percent, from its estimate of 4.63 million metric tons in the same period of 2021. The updated estimate of palay production for the period of January to March 2022 as of 01 February 2022 is higher by 0.4 percent than its estimate of 4.62 million metric tons as of 01 January 2022. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

2. The estimated harvest area for the period of January to March 2022 may decrease to 1,139.24 thousand hectares or by -0.8 percent, from 1,148.23 thousand hectares in the same period of 2021. On the other hand, yield per hectare may increase to 4.07 metric tons, from 4.03 metric tons in the same period of previous year. (Table 1)

3. About 298.45 thousand hectares or 26.2 percent of the updated standing crop have been harvested. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. As for the farmer’s planting intentions for January to March 2022, 519.73 thousand hectares or 54.5 percent of the perceived area have been planted. (Table 3)

5. Of the total area of standing palay to be harvested for April to June 2022, 38.8 percent were at the vegetative stage, 37.3 percent at the reproductive stage, and 24.0 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 4 and Figure 2)

 

CORN

1. The estimated corn production for January to March 2022 may increase to 2.463 million metric tons or by 0.7 percent based on standing crop as of 01 February 2022, from its estimate of 2.445 million metric tons in the period of January to March 2021. The updated estimate of corn production for the period of January to March 2022 as of 01 February 2022 was higher by 0.2 percent than its estimate of 2.458 million metric tons as of 01 January 2022. (Table 5 and Figure 3)

 

2. Harvest area for the period of January to March 2022 may decrease to 671.51 thousand hectares, from 685.60 thousand hectares in the same period of 2021. Yield per hectare may increase to 3.67 metric tons from the 3.57 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 5)

3. About 202.73 thousand hectares or 30.2 percent of the updated standing crop have been harvested. (Tables 5 and 6)

4. Around 200.84 thousand hectares or 47.4 percent of the planting intentions for January to March 2022 crop have been realized.
(Table 7)

5. Of the total area of 662.33 thousand hectares of standing crop for the April to June 2022 harvests, 30.4 percent were at vegetative stage, 39.9 percent at reproductive stage, and 29.7 percent at maturing stage. (Table 8 and Figure 4).
