Updates on July-September 2022 Palay and Corn Estimates, 01 August 2022

HIGHLIGHTS

Based on standing crop as of 01 August 2022, the estimated palay and corn production in the period July to September 2022 may increase from its level in the same period of 2021.

PALAY 
1. The estimated palay production for July to September 2022 may increase to 3.83 million metric tons or by 2.2 percent based on standing crop as of 01 August 2022, from its actual estimate of 3.75 million metric tons in the period of July to September 2021. On the other hand, the updated estimate of palay production as of 01 August 2022 for the period July to September was lower by -0.4 percent than its estimate of 3.85 million metric tons as of 01 July 2022. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

2. The estimated harvest area for the period of July to September 2022 may increase to 928.20 thousand hectares or by 1.7 percent, from  912.66 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of 2021. Likewise, yield per hectare may increase to 4.13 metric tons or by 0.5 percent, from 4.11 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 1)

3. About 113.38 thousand hectares or 12.2 percent of the  928.20 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 August 2022. (Tables 1 and 2)

4. Of the updated harvested area based on standing crop, the actual production was registered at 451.06 thousand metric tons as of 01 August 2022. (Table 2)

5. Of the total area of standing palay yet to be harvested as of 01 August 2022, 12.6 percent were at the vegetative stage, 56.0 percent at the reproductive stage, and 31.4 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 3 and Figure 2)

CORN
1. Based on standing crop as of 01 August 2022, the updated corn production for the period of July to September 2022 may increase to 2.37 million metric tons or by 3.3 percent from its actual estimate of 2.29 million metric tons in the same period of 2021. The updated estimate of corn production as of 01 August 2022 was higher by 1.2 percent from its estimate of 2.34 million metric tons as of 01 July 2022. (Table 4 and Figure 3)

2. Harvest area for the period of July to September 2022 may decrease to 790.47 thousand hectares or by -2.3 percent from 809.27 thousand hectares actual estimate of harvest area in the same period of 2021. On the other hand, yield per hectare may increase to 3.00 metric tons or by 6.0 percent, from 2.83 metric tons in the same period of the previous year. (Table 4)

3. About 213.76 thousand hectares or 27.0 percent of the 790.47 thousand hectares updated area of standing crop have been harvested as of 01 August 2022. (Tables 4 and 5)

4. Of the updated harvested area based on standing crop, the actual production was recorded at 658.48 thousand metric tons as of 01 August 2022. (Table 5)

5. Of the total area of 576.71 thousand hectares of standing crop yet to be harvested as of 01 August 2022, 3.2 percent were at the vegetative stage, 47.9 percent at the reproductive stage, and 48.9 percent at the maturing stage. (Table 6 and Figure 4)
