Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, August 2003

Rice Stock

  • The August 1, 2003 total rice stock inventory stood at 1.57 million metric tons, lower than previous month’s level by 13.8 percent but 17.8 percent higher compared to that of last year.
  • Compared to their month ago levels, all sectors recorded rice stock drawdowns from 8 to 19 percent.
  • The current rice stock inventory posted higher levels from that of last year as households, commercial and NFA holdings went up by 3.1, 17.1 and 36.1 percent, respectively. Around 73 percent of NFA stocks are imported rice.
  • As of the reporting period, NFA  rice stock was good for 23 days supply, while those in the households and commercial warehouses were good for 21 and 15 days supply, respectively.

Corn Stock

  • The August 1, 2003 corn stock inventory of 161 thousand tons was 4.0 percent below last month’s level, but 7.3 percent above last year’s record.
  • Compared to their month and year ago levels, households current holdings increased by 16.9 percent and 13.1 percent, respectively. In contrast, stocks in commercial warehouses dropped by 17.3 percent from previous month but up by 2.7 percent from that of last year.
  • Around 47 percent of the current corn stocks are with the households and 53 percent are with the commercial warehouses.
  • NFA reported no corn stock for the period.
