Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, September 2004

RICE STOCK

  • The country’s total rice stock inventory as of September 1, 2004 was 1.19 million metric tons, down by 12.0 and 15.7 percent from its month and year ago levels, respectively. It  was enough to last for 42 days.
  • Likewise, the households and commercial sectors holdings dropped from their month ago levels by 20.8 percent and 18.0 percent, respectively. On the other hand, NFA stock of which 84 percent are imported rice inched up by 8.8 percent.
  • Compared to last year’s levels, the NFA and commercial sectors’ holdings dropped by 30.8 and 20.9 percent, respectively. In contrast, household stocks went up by 5.8 percent.
  • As of the reporting period, NFA rice stocks was good for 14 days supply, while the households and commercial warehouses had 19 and 9 days supply, respectively.

CORN STOCK

  • The September 1, 2004 total corn stock inventory of 336 thousand metric tons was 52.9 and 9.3 percent higher than last month and same period last year, respectively.
  • Households corn stocks increased  by a hefty 176.2 and 19.3 percent compared to their month and year ago levels, owing to good harvests in most areas during the later part of August. In contrast,  those  in commercial warehouses dropped by 23.4 and 8.0 percent, respectively.
  • The households have around 69 percent of the current corn stock. NFA reported no corn stock for the period.
