Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, October 2009

RICE STOCK

  • The total rice stock inventory as of October 1, 2009 was estimated at 2,485.3 thousand metric tons. It surpassed last month’s level by 7.02 percent and was 14.6 percent higher than last year’s record.
  • Stock inventories in all sectors were higher compared to last month’s levels. Stocks in the households grew by 18.7 percent while those in commercial warehouses and NFA depositories went up by 7.7 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.
  • Compared to last year, household stocks dropped by 2.5 percent. In contrast, stocks in NFA depositories of which 75 percent were imported rice increased by 33.5 percent, and stocks in commercial warehouses by 4.0 percent.
  • The October 1, 2009 inventory of rice stocks would be enough for 71 days. Stocks in NFA depositories would be good for 36 days, while those in commercial sector would be good for 12 days. Household stocks would last for 23 days.

CORN STOCK

  • As of October 1, 2009 the total corn stock amounted to 392.1 thousand metric tons. This was higher by 8.5 percent compared to last month’s level and by 13.8 percent from same period last year.
  • Compared to last month, volume of stocks held in the households was higher by 12.7 percent and in NFA depositories by 89.9 percent. On the other hand, stocks in commercial warehouses went down by 10.6 percent.
  • Compared to last year, stocks in the household sector dropped by 8.9 percent, but these went up by 1.9 percent in commercial warehouses.
  • Of this month’s total corn stock, 45 percent were with households, 39 percent with the commercial warehouses and 16 percent with the NFA depositories.
