Rice and Corn Stocks Inventory, April 2010

  • The April 1, 2010 total rice stock inventory was estimated at 2.77 million metric tons. This was 23.1 percent higher than  previous  month’s record and 12.0 percent more than last year’s level.
  • Comparative estimates with those of last month showed significant increases in all the sectors’ inventories. Household stocks went up by 19.1 percent and commercial sector’s holdings were higher by 9.6 percent. The volume of stocks in NFA depositories, of which 96.0 percent were imported rice, was also higher by 32.2 percent.
  • Compared to last year’s records, stock holdings of NFA went up by 38.0 percent and those of commercial warehouses by 9.6 percent. In contrast, household stocks dropped by 8.1 percent.
  • The total rice stocks would be enough for 77 days. Stocks in NFA depositories would be good for 35 days, while those in commercial warehouses would be good for 12 days. Household stocks would last for 30 days.

CORN STOCK

  • The April 1, 2010 total corn stock inventory of 240.0 thousand metric tons was 1.5 percent lower than previous month’s level but  7.6  percent higher than last year’s record.
  • Compared to last month’s levels, volume of stocks in NFA depositories was lower by 21.8 percent. On the other hand, stocks in households went up by 14.1 percent and those  in commercial warehouses grew by 9.0 percent.
  • Stock inventories in all sectors recorded stock drawdowns from last year’s levels. Stocks in the households were lower by 27.4  percent  and those in commercial warehouses were down by 23.6 percent.
  • Of this month’s total corn stocks, 32  percent were with households, 37 percent with the commercial warehouses, while 31 percent were with the NFA depositories.
