SUMMARY REPORT OF THE MERCHANDISE EXPORT PERFORMANCE FOR SEPTEMBER 2000

NINE-MONTH EXPORTS REACH $27.867 BILLION

Total receipts from merchandise export for the period January to September 2000 grew by 9.0 percent to $27.867 billion from $25.558 billion last year.

For the month of September, total receipts went down by 5.2 percent to $3.502 billion compared to $3.693 billion in 1999. This is the first decline in export revenues posted since November 1994.

ELECTRONICS COMPONENTS DOWN BY 15.0 PERCENT

Electronics Components, accounting for 61.8 percent of the aggregate receipt, led the top earners for the month of September 2000. Value of shipments worth $2.163 billion decreased by 15.0 percent from $2.543 billion in 1999.

Articles of Apparel and Clothing Accessories ranked second with a 6.7 percent share and reported sales of $233.83 million which was 12.8 percent higher than $207.34 million a year ago.

The third top earner consisted of Ignition Wiring Sets and Other Wiring Sets Used in Vehicles. Sales went up by 15.3 percent to $52.44 million from $45.48 million last year.

Earnings from Woodcraft and Furniture worth $47.17 million, were up by 12.8 percent from $41.83 million a year ago.

Petroleum Products, the fifth biggest earner, reported sales amounting to $39.46 million, an increase of 127.8 percent over $17.32 million last year.

Revenues from Other Products Manufactured from Materials Imported on Consignment basis rose by 11.5 percent to $38.36 million from $34.40 million in 1999.

Completing the list of the top exports for September 2000 were Coconut Oil, $36.58 million; Metal Components, $23.31 million; Bananas (Fresh), $16.35 million; and, Shrimps and Prawns, Fresh, Chilled or Frozen, $15.85 million.

Combined revenue from the top ten exports for September amounted to $2.666 billion, or 76.1 percent of the total.

REVENUES FROM MANUFACTURED GOODS DOWN BY 6.6 PERCENT

Manufactured Goods comprised 91.7 percent of total exports. Receipts from this major export group reached $3.213 billion which was however down by 6.6 percent over $3.440 billion a year earlier.

Combined sales from Agro-Based Products and Other Agro-Based Products ranked second among the major export groups and grossed $123.72 million. Aggregate revenue grew by 2.1 percent from $121.23 million last year.

Exports of Mineral Products declined by 7.1 percent to $50.12 million while Petroleum Products rose by 127.8 percent to $39.46 million.

Special Transactions amounting to $72.38 million increased by 21.1 percent from $59.76 million last year.

30.4 PERCENT OF SEPTEMBER EXPORT REVENUES FROM U.S.

Accounting for 30.4 percent of the total exports, purchases from United States worth $1.063 billion grew by 15.7 percent from $918.55 million a year earlier.

Japan remained in second spot with a 14.0 percent share. Sales to Japan rose by 19.1 percent to $489.69 million from $411.04 million a year ago.

Taiwan bought goods valued at $281.16 million or 8.0 percent of the total exports. However, sales to Taiwan fell by 48.6 percent from $547.30 million last year.

Other major markets for September 2000 were Singapore, $269.17 million; Netherlands, $237.46 million; Hongkong, $229.39 million; Thailand, $141.11 million, United Kingdom of Great Britain, $138.25 million; Malaysia, $117.97 million; and Germany, $100.79 million.

Total earnings from the top ten markets amounted to $3.068 billion or 87.6 percent of the total.
