As of 31 December 2023, the total carabao inventory was estimated at 2.70 million heads. This indicates a decline of 2.6 percent from its previous year’s same period count of 2.78 million heads. About 99.5 percent of the country’s carabao population came from smallhold farms, while the remaining 0.4 percent and 0.1 percent were from semi-commercial and commercial farms, respectively. (Figure 2)

As of 31 December 2023, the total cattle inventory reached 2.56 million heads. This indicates a decline of 0.7 percent from the previous year’s same period count of 2.58 million heads. About 82.6 percent of the country’s cattle population during the period came from smallhold farms, while the remaining 14.0 percent and 3.3 percent were comprised of semi-commercial farms and commercial farms, respectively. As of 31 December 2023, the total goat inventory was estimated at 3.78 million heads. This reflects a decrease of 3.1 percent from the previous year’s same period count of 3.90 million heads. About 99.2 percent of the country’s goat population came from smallhold farms, while semi-commercial and commercial farms contributed 0.380 percent and 0.376 percent, respectively. (Figure 10)

As of 31 December 2023, the country’s total swine inventory was estimated at 9.61 million heads. This was 1.6 percent lower than the previous year’s same period count of 9.77 million heads. About 66.8 percent of the country’s swine population came from smallhold farms, while the remaining 30.0 percent and 3.2 percent were from commercial and semi-commercial farms, respectively. As of 31 December 2023, the total count of dairy animals was estimated at 144.68 thousand heads. This indicates a growth of 47.9 percent from the previous year’s same period count of 97.82 thousand heads. Of the total dairy animals inventory as of 31 December 2023, the dairy carabao accounted for 52.4 percent. This was followed by dairy goat with 25.9 percent share and dairy cattle with 21.7 percent share. (Figure 18)

As of 31 December 2023, the total chicken inventory reached 190.90 million birds. This was 0.2 percent lower than the previous year’s same period count of 191.20 million birds. Broiler chicken and layer chicken stocks reported reductions of 5.0 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, population of native/improved chicken expanded by 4.0 percent. (Figure 22)

As of 31 December 2023, the country’s total chicken laying flock was estimated at 67.12 million birds. This represents a decline of 2.3 percent from the inventory level of 68.73 million birds in the same period of the previous year. The layer chicken, native/improved chicken, and broiler breeder laying flock inventory recorded decreases of 0.5 percent, 0.3 percent, and 24.7 percent, respectively. Of the total laying flock, layer chicken shared 60.0 percent. This was followed by native/improved chicken with 34.0 percent and broiler breeder with 6.0 percent share. (Figure 27)

As of 31 December 2023, the total duck inventory was recorded at 14.00 million birds. This was 3.5 percent higher than the previous year’s same period level of 13.52 million birds. About 63.7 percent of the country’s duck population came from smallhold farms, while the remaining 33.6 percent and 2.7 percent were from semi-commercial and commercial farms, respectively. As of 31 December 2023, the total duck laying flock inventory was estimated at 7.91 million birds. This was 1.7 percent higher than the previous year’s same period count of 7.78 million birds.
