Chicken Situation Report, January to March 2023

As of 31 March 2023, the total chicken inventory reached 195.48 million birds. This was 3.0 percent higher than the previous year’s same period count of 189.71 million birds. Population of native/improved chicken and broiler chicken grew by 5.6 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, layer chicken stocks reported a decline of -0.2 percent.

Of the total chicken inventory, native/improved chicken accounted for 43.4 percent, followed by broiler chicken with 33.5 percent share, and layer chicken with 23.1 percent share. (Figure 3)

The highest chicken inventory was noted in Central Luzon with 33.75 million birds. This was followed by CALABARZON with 28.62 million birds and Northern Mindanao with 21.26 million birds. These regions accounted for 42.8 percent share to the country’s total chicken inventory during the period.

The highest inventory of native/improved chicken was recorded in Western Visayas with 13.42 million birds. Central Luzon reported the highest inventory of broiler chicken with 18.03 million birds, while CALABARZON had the highest layer chicken stocks with 16.89 million birds.
