Release Date:
Reference Number: 2001-064

  • Value of Production Index (VaPI) posted year-on-year increases both in 1985 and 1994-based series

Value of Production Index (VaPI) of the manufacturing industry in July 2001 registered year-on-year increases both in 1985 and 1994-based series at 11.4 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI).

    Series July 2001 June 2001
    1994-based 11.4 13.7
    1985-based 2.3 17.1

In general, both 1985 and 1994-based series followed the same trend from July 2000 to July 2001. However, 1994-based indices showed flatter curve as compared with the 1985-based (see Fig. 1).

VaPI for July 2001 in the 1985-based, however, exhibited slowed down in growth compared to the increases in the previous months (see Fig. 2).

Sectors that posted double-digit year-on-year increases both in 1985 and 1994-based series were food manufacturing, basic metals, non-metallic mineral products, transport equipment and tobacco (see Annex 1-A).

  • Volume of Production Index (VoPI) went down

The VoPI declined by 2.1 percent and 1.2 percent in the 1994-based and 1992-based series, respectively. Double-digit decreases for both series were observed in the following sectors: textile, paper and paper products and rubber products (see Annex 1-B).

Like the VaPI, VoPI generally showed the same trend for 1992 and 1994-based series (see Fig. 3).

From July 2000 to July 2001, the highest year-on-year increases were observed in November 2000 at 11.9 percent and 40.7 percent in the 1994-based and 1992-based series, respectively (see Fig. 4).
