  •    Value of Production Index rises in October 2014

Value of Production Index (VaPI) went up to 7.2 percent in October 2014, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). This figure, however, is lower than 14.1 percent recorded in October 2013. Six of 12 major sectors exhibited two-digit growth in production value, led by printing (266.8%). The other five major sectors that posted two-digit increases were the following: fabricated metal products (42.5%), beverages (26.3%), paper and paper products (21.0%), non-metallic mineral products (14.2%), and food manufacturing (11.2%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

  •    Volume of Production also picks up in October 2014

Volume of Production Index (VoPI) exhibited a year-on-year growth of 7.5 percent in October 2014 compared with 21.1 percent registered in October 2013. The increase was brought about by the expanded output performance of 12 major sectors, with significant increases noted in the following: printing (266.8%), fabricated metal products (51.3%), beverages (24.2%), paper and paper products (20.4%), and non-metallic mineral products (10.7%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.

  •    Value of Net Sales Index grows slightly in October 2014

Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) modestly grew by 3.9 percent in October 2014 compared with a year ago figure, 27.7 percent. The sectors with two-digit increase that significantly contributed to the growth of VaNSI were as follows: printing (228.5%), fabricated metal products (43.2%), textiles (26.1%), non-metallic mineral products (23.0%), rubber and plastic products (21.7%), leather products (17.7%), and food manufacturing (11.8%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.

  •    Volume of Net Sales Index slowly grows in October 2014

Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI)  climbed slowly to 4.3 percent in October 2014 compared with two-digit growth of 35.5 percent registered during the same period last year. This growth was mainly due to the expansion in sales output observed in following major sectors: printing (228.5%), fabricated metal products (52.1%), textiles (24.8%), non-metallic mineral products (19.1%), rubber and plastic products (18.9%), leather products (14.5%), machinery except electrical (11.2%), and petroleum products (10.9%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.

  •    Capacity Utilization in October 2014 is 83.6 percent

Average capacity utilization in October 2014 for total manufacturing stood at 83.6 percent.  More than 50 percent or eleven of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These are:

  • basic metals (88.6%)
  • petroleum products (88.5%)
  • non-metallic mineral products (86.4%)
  • electrical machinery (84.8%)
  • machinery except electrical (84.7%)
  • food manufacturing (84.6 %)
  • chemical products (84.4%)
  • printing (83.4%)
  • paper and paper products (83.1%)
  • rubber and plastic products (82.6%)
  • wood and wood products (81.4%)

The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 23.3 percent in October 2014. About 57.7 percent of the establishments operated at 70% to 89% capacity while 19.0 percent of the establishments operated below 70% capacity. Refer to Table 6 and B..
