  •    Value of Production Index gains in November 2014

Value of Production Index (VaPI) recorded a year-on-year increment of 7.5 percent in November 2014, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). The increase was brought about by the output performance of 12 major sectors, with significant increases noted in the following: printing (237.1%), fabricated metal products (56.4%), beverages (49.1%), paper and paper products (16.6%) non-metallic mineral products (16.6%), and leather products (10.3%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

  •    Volume of Production likewise accelerates in November 2014

Volume of Production Index (VoPI) gained at the rate of 8.1 percent in November 2014. Six of 13 major sectors that posted positive increments in production output, with printing influencing the largest increase of 237.1 percent. The other five major sectors that showed two-digit increases were the following: fabricated metal products (64.7%), beverages (46.6%), non-metallic mineral products (15.8%), paper and paper products (15.0%), and basic metals (14.8%).  Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.

  •    Value of Net Sales Index decelerates in November 2014

Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) reflected a minimal annual drop of 0.3 percent in November 2014 compared with two-digit growth of 32.0 percent during the same month last year. This was attributed to the shortfall in sales value observed in eight major sectors, with two-digit decreases observed in the following: footwear and wearing apparel (-23.1%), miscellaneous manufactures (-14.9%), and the heavy weighted petroleum products (-10.4%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.

  •    Volume of Net Sales Index sustains growth in November 2014

Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) maintained a positive growth rate registering at 0.3 percent in November 2014. The increase was pushed by the consistently three-digit expansion of printing (259.6%) and the two-digit growth of seven sectors. These were the following: fabricated metal products (62.6%), wood and wood products (35.2%), textiles (32.2%), basic metals (27.9%), leather products (18.0%), non-metallic mineral products (13.7%), and paper and paper products (11.9%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.

  •    Capacity Utilization in November 2014 is 83.6 percent

Average capacity utilization in October 2014 for total manufacturing stood at 83.6 percent.  More than 50 percent or eleven of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These are:

  • basic metals (88.4%)
  • petroleum products (88.4%)
  • non-metallic mineral products (86.5%)
  • electrical machinery (84.7%)
  • machinery except electrical (84.7%)
  • food manufacturing (84.7 %)
  • chemical products (84.5%)
  • paper and paper products (83.3%)
  • rubber and plastic products (82.6%)
  • printing (82.1%)
  • wood and wood products (81.4%)

The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 24.8 percent in November 2014. About 56.2 percent of the establishments operated at 70% to 89% capacity while 19.0 percent of the establishments operated below 70% capacity. Refer to Table 6 and B.
