- Value of Production Index is on a downward trend in October 2015
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for total manufacturing went down as it posted a decrement of 9.2 percent in October 2015 compared with a year ago growth of 8.0 percent, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). The decreases in 11 major sectors pulled down the VaPI. Five major sectors exhibiting two-digit decreases in VaPI were noted in the following: petroleum products (-35.2%), furniture and fixtures (-30.5%), wood and wood products (-29.4%), food manufacturing (-15.6%) and beverages (-13.2%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production slides at slower rate
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) made a turnaround as it posted a minimal annual decline of 1.8 percent in October 2015 from an increase of 8.7 percent during the same month last year. This was mainly influenced by the decrements noted in eight major sectors, offsetting the increases reported by 12 major sectors. Four major sectors that registered two-digit decreases in VoPI were as follows: petroleum products (-20.3%), beverages (-19.7%), food manufacturing (-15.7%) and wood and wood products (-14.0%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index decreases further
Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI) continued to fall, reflecting a two-digit dropped of 12.9 percent in October 2015. Among the 13 major sectors reporting decrements in VaNSI, five major sectors significantly contributed to the decreases, namely: printing (-55.0%), petroleum products (-27.9%), chemical products (-20.1%) and food manufacturing (-13.3%) and furniture and fixtures (-10.1%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index strides down
Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) shrank further as it registered an annual decrease of 5.8 percent in October 2015. This was attributed to the decreases in VoNSI observed in 10 major sectors led by printing (-54.3%), outpacing the increments in 10 major sectors. Four other major sectors that significantly contributed to the decrease in VoNSI were chemical products (-21.9%) food manufacturing (-13.4%), petroleum products (-11.3%) and machinery except electrical (-10.0%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
- Average Capacity Utilization Rate in October 2015 is 83.4 percent
Average capacity utilization rate in October 2015 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.4 percent. Fifty-five percent or 11 of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These were:
- basic metals (88.6%)
- petroleum products (88.2%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.2%)
- machinery except electrical (85.0%)
- electrical machinery (84.4%)
- food manufacturing (84.2%)
- chemical products (83.6%)
- paper and paper products (83.3%)
- rubber and plastic products (82.6%)
- wood and wood products (81.0%)
- printing (80.5%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 24.7 percent in October 2015. About 56.7 percent of the establishments operated at 70 percent to 89 percent capacity while 18.6 percent of the establishments operated below 70 percent capacity. Refer to Table 6 and B.
