All Provinces and HUCs in Central Visayas Post Growths in 2021 with Province of Cebu Contributing the Most to the Growth of the Region

02 December 2022 – Cebu City. All the provinces and highly urbanized cities (HUCs) in Central Visayas grew in 2021 after the declines recorded in 2020 based on the released Provincial Product Accounts (PPA). The release covered four provinces of Bohol, Cebu, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor, and three HUCs, namely, City of Cebu, City of Lapu-Lapu, and City of Mandaue.

Results showed that in 2021, the province of Cebu contributed the most to the 5.4 percent growth of the region with 1.7 percentage points. This was followed by the City of Cebu with 1.5 percentage points, and Negros Oriental with 0.61 percentage point. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

In terms of growth, the City of Cebu recorded the fastest growth of 6.9 percent, while the City of Lapu-Lapu had the slowest growth of 3.8 percent. (Table 1)

Central Visayas, along with two other regions, was included in the pilot compilation of PPA in 2021. To date, the PPA compilation covers 46 provinces and 13 HUCs across nine regions in the country. The results covering the period 2018 to 2021 were consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 28 April 2022.
