City of General Santos Posts the Fastest Growth Among Economies in SOCCSKSARGEN in 2022

The City of General Santos posted the fastest economic growth among the provinces in SOCCSKSARGEN at 9.0 percent in 2022. The economies in the provinces of Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat also recorded positive growths in 2022. Moreover, City of General Santos and the provinces of Sarangani and South Cotabato posted growth rates higher than the regional growth rate of 6.6 percent. (Figure 1)

Of the PhP 503.64 billion value of the economy of SOCCSKSARGEN in 2022, South Cotabato had the biggest share at 26.8 percent, followed by the City of General Santos with a share of 25.6 percent. On the contrary, Sarangani had the least share of 9.5 percent. (Figure 2)

In terms of share of provinces and HUC to Agriculture, forestry and fishing (AFF) of the region, Cotabato accounted for 27.9 percent. This was closely followed by province of South Cotabato with a share of 26.8 percent and Sultan Kudarat with a share of 21.0 percent. (Table 1)

For Industry, South Cotabato topped in terms of share, accounting for 28.8 percent. City of General Santos followed with 27.5 percent share and Cotabato with 22.6 percent share. (Table 1)

Meanwhile, City of General Santos accounted for 32.4 percent of the region’s total value of Services. South Cotabato and Cotabato followed with shares of 25.7 percent and 22.4 percent, respectively. (Table 1)

In 2023, the PPA compilation covers 82 provinces and 17 HUCs across 16 regions in the country. The results covering the period 2018 to 2022 were consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 27 April 2023.
