2014 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) - Accomodation and Food Service Activities : Final Results

Based on the final results of the 2014 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI), the Philippines had a total of 28,059 establishments engaged in accommodation and food service activities. Of the total figure, 22,565 establishments or 80.4 percent were accounted to establishments with total employment (TE) of less than 20, while 5,494 or 19.6% were for TE of 20 and over.

The preliminary results of the 2014 Annual Survey of Philippine and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide showed that accommodation and food service activities sector had a total of 5,492 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over in the formal sector of the economy.

Majority of establishments are engaged in restaurant and mobile food service activities

The final results of the 2013 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide, showed that the Philippines had a total of 28,188 establishments engaged in accommodation and food service activities. A total of 22,701 establishments or 80.5 percent had a total employment (TE) of less than 20 while 5,487 or 19.5 percent had TE of 20 and over. (See Tables 2 and 3)

Restaurants and mobile food service activities dominate the sector

Preliminary results of the 2013 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) conducted nationwide showed that there were a total of 5,475 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over engaged in accommodation and food service activities in the formal sector of the economy. Restaurants and mobile food service activities had the highest number of establishments at 3,956 or 72.3 percent, followed a far by short term accommodation activities with 1,113 establishments or 20.3 percent. Beverage serving activities ranked third with 318 establishments or 5.8 percent. Other accommodation recorded the lowest number of 7 establishments or 0.1 percent. Figure 1 shows the percentage distribution of establishments by industry group in 2013.

Restaurants and mobile food service activities dominate Accommodation and Food Service Activities section

Based on the preliminary results of the 2012 Census of Philippine and Industry (CPBI) conducted nationwide, the Philippines had a total of 6,229 establishments with total employment (TE) of 20 and over engaged in Accommodation and Food Service Activities. Figure 1 shows that restaurants and mobile food service activities garnered the highest number of establishments at 4,477 (71.9%) followed by short term accommodation activities with 1,239 establishments or 19.9 percent. Other accommodation recorded the lowest number of establishments with 9 or 0.1 percent only. (Table 1)
