Urban Population of the Philippines (2020 Census of Population and Housing)

In 2020, 58.93 million or 54.0 percent of the total 109.03 million population of the Philippines lived in urban barangays. This represents an increase of 7.20 million persons from the 51.73 million urban residents in 2015. The rural population or those who lived in barangays classified as rural in 2020 comprised the remaining 50.10 million persons or 46.0 percent of the total population. (Tables 1 and A)

Household Population, Number of Households, and Average Household Size of the Philippines (2020 Census of Population and Housing)

As of 01 May 2020, the Philippines had a total population of 109,035,343 persons. Of this total, the household population comprised 99.7 percent or 108,667,043 persons. This is 8.09 million higher than the 100,573,715 household population in 2015, and 16.57 million more than the 92,097,978 household population posted in 2010. (Table A and Figure 1)

Section 5 (3) Article VI of the 1987 Philippine Constitution stipulates that each province (regardless of population size) and each city, with a population of at least 250,000 persons, should have at least one Representative in the Congress. As of 31 August 2021, the Philippines had a total of 253 legislative districts (LDs).
