General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (1978=100) : September 2008

The month-on-month growth rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) further dropped to -1.2 percent in September from -0.2 percent in August. This can be attributed to the decreases in the heavily weighted food index at -0.3 percent in September from -0.1 percent in August; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, -8.7 percent from -2.4 percent; and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, -1.6 percent from -0.1 percent. Moreover, price increment in beverages and tobacco index slowed down to 0.7 percent from 0.9 percent while prices of crude materials, inedible except fuels, machinery and transport equipment and miscellaneous manufactured articles recorded a zero growth rate from their corresponding previous monthÒ³ figures of 1.1 percent, -0.1 percent and 0.7 percent.

The month-on-month growth rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) dropped to -0.2 percent in August from 0.7 percent in July. Declines were registered in the price indexes of mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at -2.4 percent from 8.5 percent; chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats -0.2 percent from 0.2 percent and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials at -0.1 percent from 0.7 percent. In addition, price hike in the machinery and transport equipment index slowed down to 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent while the food index recorded a zero growth. The rest of the commodity groups posted higher positive monthly rates.

The month-on-month growth rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) eased to 0.7 percent in July from 2.9 percent in June as the heavily weighted food index declined by -0.4 percent from 1.9 percent. In addition, slower price gains were noted in mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at 8.5 percent in July from 11.4 percent in June; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 0.7 percent from 4.8 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 0.1 percent from 0.3 percent. The price movement of machinery and transport equipment index remained at 0.2 percent while the rest of the commodity groups posted higher monthly growth rates.

General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (1978=100) : June 2008

The month-on-month growth rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) moved up to 2.9 percent in June from 2.4 percent in May. The monthly price increments in crude materials, inedible except fuels were higher at 0.5 percent in June from 0.3 percent in May; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 11.4 percent from 6.5 percent; manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 4.8 percent from 2.1 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, 0.4 percent from zero growth. Add-ons in the prices of machinery and transport equipment remained at 0.2 percent while the rest of the commodity groups posted slower monthly growth rates.

General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (1978=100) : May 2008

The month-on-month growth rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) further picked up to 2.4 percent in May from 1.9 percent in April. The monthly price increases in food items were higher at 2.4 percent in May from 2.2 percent in April; beverages and tobacco, 0.7 percent from 0.1 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 6.5 percent from 4.6 percent; and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials, 2.1 percent from 0.9 percent. Prices of miscellaneous manufactured articles remained stable as the groupÒ³ index still recorded a zero growth while the rest of the commodity groups posted slower positive growth rates.
