General Retail Price Index in the National Capital Region (1978=100) : October 2007

The month-on-month inflation rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) went up by 0.7 percentage point to 1.0 percent in October from 0.3 percent in September. Higher monthly price increments were registered correspondingly in food items and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at 1.3 percent and 3.1 percent in October from their respective rates of 0.6 percent and -0.5 percent in September. Moreover, prices of crude materials, inedible except fuels and chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats increased to 0.1 percent from their respective last month's rates of -0.4 percent and zero growth. Add-ons in the prices of beverages and tobacco and manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials correspondingly remained at 0.1 percent and 0.3 percent while the group's index of machinery and transport equipment still recorded a zero growth rate. Likewise, no price movement was seen in the miscellaneous manufactured articles as it also posted a zero growth rate from 0.1 percent.

The month-on-month inflation rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) registered at 0.3 percent in September was slower than the 0.4 percent growth in August. This was due to the negative monthly rates posted in the corresponding indices of crude materials, inedible except fuels and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials at -0.4 percent and -0.5 percent from 0.7 percent and 1.0 percent, respectively. Moreover, increases in the prices of beverages and tobacco and miscellaneous manufactured articles slowed down to 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, no price movement was seen in chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats and machinery and transport equipment as they recorded zero growth rate.

The month-on-month inflation rate of the General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in the National Capital Region (NCR) registered at 0.4 percent in July was slower than the 0.7 percent growth in June. Increases in the prices of the heavily weighted food items slowed down to 0.5 percent in July from 0.6 percent in June; beverages and tobacco, 0.1 percent from 0.2 percent; mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials, 0.4 percent from 3.7 percent; and miscellaneous manufactured articles, negative -0.1 percent from zero growth. Meanwhile, price movement in crude materials, inedible except fuels was recorded at zero. Price additions in chemicals, including animal and vegetable oils and fats remained at 0.1 percent. On the other hand, prices of manufactured goods classified chiefly by materials and machinery and transport equipment correspondingly increased to 0.3 percent and 0.1 percent from their respective last monthÒ³ rates of 0.2 percent and negative -0.1 percent.
