Highlights of the 2020 Annual Final International Merchandise Trade Statistics of the Philippines

The country’s total external trade in goods plunged to USD 155.03 billion in 2020, from USD 182.52 billion in 2019. This indicates an annual decline of -15.1 percent in 2020. In 2019, total trade grew by 0.2 percent while in 2018, total trade increased at annual rate of 10.5 percent. (Table A)

The country’s total agricultural trade in the fourth quarter of 2020, which amounted to USD 4.66 billion, went down at an annual rate of -6.8 percent. This was faster than the previous quarter’s annual decreased of -3.3 percent and the fourth quarter of 2019 annual dropped of -0.5 percent.

The country’s total agricultural trade in the third quarter of 2020, which amounted to USD 4.97 billion, declined at an annual rate of -3.3 percent. This was slower than the previous quarter’s annual drop of 20.0 percent. On the other hand, the third quarter of 2019 showed an annual increase of 3.2 percent.

Highlights of the Foreign Trade Statistics for Agricultural Commodities in the Philippines Second Quarter 2020 Preliminary

The country’s total agricultural trade in the second quarter of 2020, which amounted to USD 4.07 billion, declined at an annual rate of 20.0 percent. This was faster than the previous quarter’s annual drop of 11.6 percent. On the other hand, the second quarter of 2019 showed an annual increase of 4.8 percent .

During the quarter, agricultural exports and imports were recorded at USD 1.45 billion (35.7%) and USD 2.62 billion (64.3%), respectively. (Figure 1 and Table 1)
