Value of Production accelerates in February 2008

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry registered a year-on-year growth of 9.5 percent in February 2008, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). The growth maybe attributed to the two-digit increases in seven (7) major sectors led by petroleum products with 77.2 percent. Other major sectors that recorded two-digit increments in value of production were the following:leather products, beverages, footwear and wearing apparel, basic metals, wood and wood products, and rubber and plastic products. Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry on a yearly basis went up by 8.5 percent in May 2006 compared with the year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). This was brought about by the three-digit growth in production of leather products with 127.6 percent, followed by six (6) other major sectors which posted two-digit increases, as follows: basic metals, fabricated metal products, miscellaneous manufactures, petroleum products, textiles and electrical machinery. Value of Production slides further in February 2007

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry continued to fall as it posted a decrease of 8.3 percent in February 2007, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Eleven of the 20 major sectors posted decreases in production, with two-digit decreases registered by the following: textiles, petroleum products, machinery excluding electrical, tobacco, footwear and wearing apparel, beverages and rubber products. Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

Likewise, VaPI recorded a month-on-month decline of 8.8 percent in February 2007 due to the significant decreases observed in the following sectors: petroleum products, rubber products and beverages. Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

Value of Production drops for the third month

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry continued its downtrend as it posted a 3.7 percent decline in November 2006 compared with the year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Machinery excluding electrical posted the highest decrease of 48.8 percent, followed by five other major sectors with two-digit decreases in production value. These were textiles, petroleum products, tobacco, rubber products and non-metallic mineral products. Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
