Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry on an annual basis declined to 14.9 percent in April 2009, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Seventeen of 20 major sectors accounted for the decline in production with significant values noted in the following: leather products, furniture and fixtures, petroleum products, basic metals, transport equipment, paper and paper products, footwear and wearing apparel, miscellaneous manufactures, rubber and plastic products, chemical products, machinery except electrical, and food manufacturing.
