Ilocos Sur's Population Growth Rate Doubled After 5 Years

The province of Ilocos Sur recorded a total population of 594,206 persons in the 2000 Census of Population and Housing (Census 2000). The figure was higher by 48,821 persons over the 1995 census results. This registered a 1.85 annual growth rate, which was twice as much as that of 1995 (0.90 percent). A corresponding ten percent increase on the number of households was also observed, from 108,329 households in 1995 to 119,212 households in 2000. This resulted to an average household size of 4.98 persons, slightly lower than the 5.03 average household size recorded in 1995.

Ilocos Norte: Least Populated Province in Ilocos Region

The Census 2000 results showed that Ilocos Norte registered a total population of 514,241 persons, higher by 31,590 persons over the 1995 results. This figure recorded a 1.37 percent growth rate, from only 0.84 in 1995. A corresponding increase on the number of households was also recorded at 106,939 households, higher by 7,286 households over the 1995 figure. This resulted to an average household size of 4.8 persons, same as the average household size recorded in 1995 and lower than the national average of five persons.

Ifugao: Five Economically Active Persons Support Four Dependents

The province of Ifugao registered a total population of 161,623 persons in the year 2000 up from 149,598 in 1995. This figure gave the province an average annual growth rate of 1.67 percent, an increase of 1.38 percentage points from the 1990 to 1995 period. The number of households also rose to 31,346, higher by 2,145 households compared to the 1995 figure. This gave an average household size of 5.2 persons, a slight increase from 1995 (5.1) and the national average (five persons).

Guimaras Population Almost Doubled in Thirty Years

Guimaras, the smallest and newest province of Western Visayas, had grown in terms of population. From a total population of only 73,014 persons thirty years ago, it almost doubled its size with a total of 141,450 in the 2000 Census of Population and Housing. It registered an annual growth rate of 1.8 percent from 1990 to 2000 and 2.4 percent from 1995 to 2000. Similarly, the number of households also rose to 27,465, higher by 3,654 households from 1995. This gave an average household size of 5.1 persons, lower than the 1995 average of 5.3 and slightly higher than the national average of five persons.

Eastern Samar: Home of the Warays

The total population of Eastern Samar as of May 2000, was 375,822 persons, an increase of 13,498 persons over the 1995 Census of Population results. This translated to an annual growth rate of 0.79 percent, from 1.80 percent in 1995. A corresponding increase on the number of households was also recorded at 73,032 households, higher by 5,453 households over the 1995 figure. This resulted to an average household size of 5.14 persons, slightly lower than the average household size recorded in 1995 but higher than the national average of five persons.
