Camarines Sur: Population to Double After Four Decades

The total population of Camarines Sur, as of May 1, 2000, was 1,551,549 persons. This implied an increase of 118,951 persons over the 1995 census figure or an average annual population growth rate of 1.72 percent, slightly lower than the annual population growth rate recorded during the 1990 to 1995 period (1.75 percent). A corresponding increase on the number of households was also registered, from 265,030 households in 1995 to 288,172 households in 2000. This resulted to an average household size of 5.38 persons, slightly lower than the average household size (5.40 persons) recorded five years ago.

The total population of Camarines Norte, as of May 1, 2000, was 470,654 persons. The figure was higher by 31,503 persons over the 1995 Census of Population (POPCEN) results. It translated to an annual population growth rate of 1.49 percent, lower than that of the 1990-1995 period (2.20 percent). If the current rate continues, the population of Camarines Norte will double in 46 years.

Close to A Million Persons in Cagayan (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

The total population of Cagayan, as of May 1, 2000, was 993,580 persons. This implied an increase of 98,530 persons over the 1995 census figure or an average annual population growth rate of 2.26 percent. This was 0.83 percentage point higher than the average growth rate recorded in the 1995 Census of Population (1.43 percent). A corresponding increase on the number of households was also registered, from 179,096 households in 1995 to 191,037 households in 2000. This resulted to an average household size of 5.19 persons, higher than the national average of five persons.

The province of Bulacan registered a total population of 2,234,088 persons in the year 2000, up from 1,784,441 persons in 1995. This figure gave the province an average annual growth rate of 4.93 percent, an increase of 1.69 percentage points from the 1990 to 1995 period. The number of households was registered at 463,886, an increase of 104,273 households over the 1995 figure. This gave an average household size of 4.8 persons, a slight decrease from the 1995 and national average of five persons. If the current growth rate continues, the population of Bulacan was expected to double in 14 years.

The Census 2000 results showed that Bukidnon reached a million population (1,060,415 persons) from 940,403 persons in the 1995 Census of Population. This figure recorded a 2.61 percent annual population growth rate, from a growth rate of 2.05 percent during the 1990 to 1995 period. A corresponding increase on the number of households was also recorded at 201,777 households, higher by 26,489 households over the 1995 figure. This resulted to an average household size of 5.25 persons, higher than the average household size recorded in 1995 and higher than the national average of five persons.
