Cebu City: Population Growth Rate Recovered from a Downfall (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

Cebu City recorded a total population of 718,821 persons in the 2000 Census of Population and Housing (Census 2000). This was up by 56,522 persons as compared to the 1995 Census of Population (POPCEN) results. For the period 1995 to 2000, the annual population growth rate for Cebu City was 1.77 percent, still low compared to the growth rate during the '70s and '80s but higher than the 1.54 percent annual population growth rate during the 1990 to 1995 period. If the current annual population growth rate of the province continues, the population of Cebu City is expected to double in 39 years.

Caloocan City: Population to Double in 23 Years (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

Caloocan City recorded a total population of 1,177,604 persons in the 2000 Census of Population and Housing (Census 2000). This was up by 154,445 persons as compared to 1,023,159 persons recorded in the 1995 Census of Population (POPCEN). For the period 1995 to 2000, the annual population growth rate of Caloocan City was 3.06 percent, lower than that of the 1990 to 1995 period (5.64 percent). If the current annual population growth rate of the city continues, the population of Caloocan City is expected to double in 23 years.

Cagayan De Oro City: Population Growth Rate Declined to 1.63 Percent (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

The population of Cagayan de Oro City, as of May 1, 2000 was 461,877 persons. This was up by 33,563 persons as compared to the 1995 figure. However, the annual population growth rate from 1995 to 2000 declined to 1.63 percent, from 4.44 percent in the 1990 to 1995 census result.

Butuan City: Three Out of Five Housing Units with Galvanized Iron for Roof and Wood for Walls(Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

The population of Butuan City, as of May 2000 was 267,279 persons. This was up by 20,205 persons as compared to 247,074 persons in 1995. The population growth rate of Butuan City had been continuously declining since 1980 to 1995. From a growth rate of 5.40 percent during the 1975 to 1980 period, it dropped to 2.82 percent during the 80-s and further to 1.53 percent during the early 90-s. However, in 1995 to 2000 period, the annual growth rate increased to 1.70 percent. The number of households also rose to 50,273 from 46,596 in 1995. The average household size was 5.30 persons, a slight increase from 1995 (5.28 persons) and higher than the national average of five persons.
