Population Growth Rate Declined in Sultan Kudarat (Results from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, NSO)

The Census 2000 results showed that Sultan Kudarat registered a total population of 586,505 persons, higher by 64,318 persons over the 1995 results. This figure recorded a decrease in the annual growth rate, from 3.44 percent in 1995 to 2.52 percent in 2000. A corresponding increase on the number of households was also recorded at 114,461 households, higher by 10,150 households over the 1995 figure. This resulted to an average household size of 5.12 persons, higher than the national average of five persons.

Persons with Disability Comprised 1.23 Percent of the Total Population

Based on the results of the 2000 Census of Population and Housing (Census 2000), the total number of persons with disability (PWDs) was posted at 942,098 or about 1.23 percent of the total population in the country. This registered an increase of 2.48 percent compared with the results of the 1995 Census of Population (POPCEN) (919,292 persons).

Senior Citizen Comprised Six Percent of the Population

The total number of senior citizens (60 years old and over) based on the 2000 Census of Population and Housing was 4.6 million, accounting for 5.97 percent of the 2000 Philippine population. This number registered a 22.18 percent increase from 1995 (3.7 million persons). In terms of the average annual population growth rate, the elderly population grew at 4.39 percent during the 1995 to 2000 period, higher when compared to the 1990 to 1995 growth rate of 3.06 percent. If the growth rate continues at 4.39 percent, the number of senior citizens is expected to reach seven million in 2010 and to double in approximately 16 years.

Women 15 to 49 Years Old

Of the 37.9 million women in the Philippines, 51 percent belonged to the reproductive age group, that is, 15 to 49 years. This was the same proportion (51 percent) as in the 1995 census and slightly higher than in 1990 (50 percent). Detailed distribution by age group revealed that women aged 15 to 19 years comprised 20.6 percent; 20 to 24 years, 18.3 percent; 25 to 29 years, 15.6 percent; 30 to 34 years, 14.2 percent; 35 to 39 years, 12.4 percent; 40 to 44 years, 10.6 percent; and 45 to 49 years, 8.4 percent.

Olongapo City Had a Median Age of 23 Years

The City of Olongapo registered a total population of 194,260 persons in the year 2000, up from 179,754 persons in 1995. This translated to an average annual growth rate of 1.68 percent, an increase of 3.03 percentage points during the 1990 to 1995 period. The number of households rose to 43,107, higher by 4,231 households as compared to the 1995 figure. This gave an average household size of 4.8 persons, a slight increase from 1995 (4.6) but lower than the national average of five persons.
