Producer Price Survey : January 2008

Producer Price Index increases at a slower rate

The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000 = 100) for the manufacturing industry registered a slight increase of 0.1 percent in January 2008 compared to its year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the monthly Producer price Survey. Fifteen (15) of 20 major sectors contributed to the increase led by basic metals (23.1%) and petroleum products (19.0%). The remaining five major sectors posted price declines with two-digit decreases reported by miscellaneous manufactures (-23.6%) and electrical machinery (-10.5%) . Refer to Tables 2 and 1-A.

Producer Price Index posts negative growth rate

The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000 = 100) for the manufacturing industry registered a decline of 0.8 percent in February 2008 compared to its year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the monthly Producer price Survey. Miscellaneous manufactures posted the biggest drop of 23.9 percent. Six (6) major sectors reported price reductions, posting single-digit decreases, as follows: furnitures and fixtures, machinery except electrical, electrical machinery, fabricated metal products, textiles, and paper and paper products . On the other hand, thirteen major sectors reported price increases, with two-digit growth observed in petroleum products,(22.0%) basic metals(16.8%) and publishing and printing(10.4%). Producer Price Index registers slower growth

The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000 = 100) for the manufacturing industry increased at a slower rate of 0.8 percent in March compared to its year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the monthly Producer Price Survey. Among the major sectors, petroleum products and basic metals posted the highest producer price increases with two-digit growth of 23.0 percent and 16.6 percent, respectively, while eleven (11) major sectors posted single-digit increases led by publishing and printing . On the other hand, sectors that reported two-digit decreases in producer price were observed in miscellaneous manufactures and furnitures and fixtures. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-A.

Producer Price Survey : April 2008

Producer Price Index maintains uptrend

The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for the manufacturing industry increased by 1.6 percent in April 2008 compared to its year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Producer Price Survey. Eleven (11) major sectors posted positive growths led by petroleum products and basic metals, which registered two-digit increments of 23.0 percent and 22.0 percent, respectively. On the other hand, nine (9) major sectors posted decreases led by furniture and fixtures with a significant decrease of 11.0 percent. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-A.

Producer Price Survey : May 2008

Producer Price Index jumps three percentage points

The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for the manufacturing industry rose to 3.7 percent in May 2008, up from 0.7 percent a year ago, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Producer Price Survey. Moreover, the growth was more than twice the rate of 1.6 percent recorded in April 2008. Thirteen (13) major sectors contributed to the increase, with two-digit growth observed in petroleum products (35.6%) and basic metals, (17.3%). On the other hand, the remaining seven (7) major sectors posted drops in producer price, led by miscellaneous manufactures (-12.2%). Refer to Tables 2 and 1-A.
