Major Vegetables and Root Crops Quarterly Bulletin, April - June 2018

April 2018 to June 2018

  • For the second quarter of 2018, production of cassava slightly decreased by 0.9 percent, from 817.09 thousand metric tons in the same quarter of the previous year to 809.88 thousand metric tons this year. This was attributed to the following factors:
    • decreased area planted in Bicol Region due to low buying price last year and in Northern Mindanao due to lesser demand from feeds manufacturers; and
    • lesser and smaller tubers harvested in CALABARZON due to too much rains during growth stage and tuber formation.
  • Northern Mindanao, the top cassava producer with 331.83 thousand metric tons shared 41.0 percent this quarter. The other leading producers were Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) with 27.5 percent and Cagayan Valley, 9.1 percent.
