Major Vegetables and Rootcrops Quarterly Bulletin, January-March 2017

May 2017

Mongo

  • The January-March 2017 production of mungbean slightly grew by 0.3 percent, from 7.35 thousand metric tons in 2016 to 7.37 thousand metric tons this year. This could be attributed to the following:
    • increase in area planted in Tarlac due to seeds distribution program of the Department of Agriculture through the Local Government Units (DA-LGUs); and

    • more and better pods harvested in Pangasinan and Ilocos Norte due to distribution of quality seeds from the LGUs.

  • Ilocos Region, the biggest producer, contributed 3.05 thousand metric tons or 41.4 percent to the country’s total mungbean production this quarter. The other major producers were Western Visayas with 18.0 percent share and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) with 10.4 percent.
