Major Vegetables and Root Crops Quarterly Bulletin, April-June 2023

  • During the second quarter of 2023, mung bean/mongo production was estimated at 22.74 thousand metric tons. This was -1.9 percent lower than the previous year’s same period level of 23.17 thousand metric tons.

  • Ilocos Region remained as the top producer of mung bean/mongo with 8.88 thousand metric tons or 39.1 percent share to the total production. This was followed by Central Luzon with 6.44 thousand metric tons and Cagayan Valley with 5.47 thousand metric tons. These regions contributed 91.4 percent share to the total mung bean/mongo output during the quarter.

  • From January to June 2023, the area planted for mung bean/mongo decreased to 36.70 thousand hectares. This was -0.6 percent lower than the previous year’s same period area planted for mung bean/mongo at 36.92 thousand hectares.
