All Provinces and HUCs in Northern Mindanao Post Growths in 2021 with City of Cagayan de Oro Contributing the Most to the Growth of the Region

02 December 2022 – Cagayan de Oro City. All the provinces and highly urbanized cities (HUCs) in Northern Mindanao grew in 2021 after the declines recorded in 2020 based on the released Provincial Product Accounts (PPA). The release covered five provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental, as well as the HUCs of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.

Results showed that in 2021, the City of Cagayan de Oro contributed the most to the 6.3 percent growth of the region with 2.6 percentage points. This was followed by the province of Bukidnon with 1.7 percentage points, and Misamis Oriental with 0.7 percentage point. (Table 1 and Figure 1)

In terms of growth, the City of Cagayan de Oro recorded the fastest growth of 9.6 percent, while the province of Lanao del Norte had the slowest growth of 3.2 percent. (Table 1)

Northern Mindanao, along with two other regions, was included in the pilot compilation of PPA in 2021. To date, the PPA compilation covers 46 provinces and 13 HUCs across nine regions in the country. The results covering the period 2018 to 2021 were consistent with the annual regional accounts released on 28 April 2022.
