The Compendium of Philippine Environment Statistics is a compilation of environment and related socioeconomic statistics collected from various government agencies. One of its component, Component 5 Human Settlements and Environmental Health, focuses on the statistics related to the living conditions and environmental health of the areas where human live and work, including the access to selected basic services.
The Land Transportation Office reported the number of registered vehicles by type of fuel used and type of motor vehicle registration. The total number of registered vehicles by type of fuel used increased to 14.27 million in 2023 from 13.83 million registered vehicles in 2022. Gasoline-powered vehicles reached 11.23 million or 78.7 percent of the total number of registered vehicles in 2023, a 2.5 percent increase from the 10.95 million total number registered vehicles in 2022. Meanwhile, 3.03 million registered vehicles or 21.3 percent of the total number of registered vehicles used diesel. In addition, 0.1 percent of the total number of registered vehicles used Liquified Petroleum Gas (3 registered vehicles), Compressed Natural Gas (9 registered vehicles), electric (1.36 thousand registered vehicles), and hybrid (6.16 thousand registered vehicles). In addition, the total length of road network, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways, reached 35.16 thousand kilometers in 2023. The national road network primarily consists of paved roads, extending to 34.80 thousand kilometers. Paved roads include 22.34 thousand kilometers of concrete roads and 12.50 thousand kilometers of asphalt roads. Moreover, the national road network includes 366.91 kilometers of unpaved surfaces, comprising 342.02 kilometers of gravel roads and 24.89 kilometers of earth roads. (Table 5.9)
