The average farmgate price of cattle in the first quarter of 2018 was 7.55 percent higher than last year’s average farmgate price of PhP 96.52 per kilogram, liveweight. This year’s farmgate price for the first quarter was PhP 103.80 per kilogram, liveweight.

Inventory

As of January 1, 2018, the total cattle inventory increased by 0.25 percent from its level of 2,547,614 heads a year ago. Inventory in backyard farms increased by 0.59 percent, while stocks in commercial farms decreased by 4.90 percent from last year’s head count.

Bulk of cattle stocks were recorded in Ilocos Region, Central Visayas, and CALABARZON. These regions contributed about 33.12 percent to the total cattle population.
