Total chicken production for the second quarter of 2018 was 462,335 metric tons, liveweight. It increased by 4.47 percent from previous year’s level of 442,567 metric tons. Of the total chicken production, 82.15 percent were contributed by the broiler chicken type.
Most of the regions (except for Cagayan Valley and Eastern Visayas) posted positive growth in production. Central Luzon remains the top producing region for chicken with 176,890 metric tons. Bulk of the production were recorded in the regions of Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao. These regions accounted for 63.41 percent of the total chicken production. (Table 1)
As of July 1, 2018, the total chicken inventory was estimated at 186.92 million birds. It grew by 3.25 percent as compared with previous year’s stocks. Of the total inventory, 44.78 percent were native/improved type. All three (3) types of chicken posted positive growth in inventory. Native/improved chicken grew by 2.89 percent, broiler chicken with 1.84 percent and layer chicken with 6.59 percent. Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao were the top three (3) regions in terms of chicken inventory. (Table 2)
The average farmgate price of broiler chicken during the second quarter of 2018 was recorded at PhP 86.76 per kilogram, liveweight or an increase of 0.45 percent compared with last year’s price of PhP 86.37 per kilogram, liveweight. (Table 3)

The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.
Concepts and Definitions
Volume of Production refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for dressing which include animals shipped-out for dressing. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of domesticated animals present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
