Total chicken production (439,956 metric tons) during the first quarter of 2018 increased by 4.93 percent compared to previous year’s level of 419,303 metric tons. Of the total chicken production, 79.89 percent was contributed by the broiler chicken type.  Central Luzon was the country’s top chicken producer with estimated production of 162,321 metric tons. Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao comprised the top three (3) chicken producers in the country and accounted for 63.70 percent of the total chicken production.
 
 

 

The total chicken inventory as of April 1, 2018 grew by 2.96 percent or an estimates of 184.34 million birds compared with previous year’s total inventory.  The inventory of layer and native/improved chicken recorded increases by 7.15 percent and 4.42 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, broiler chicken inventory (estimated at 63.63 million birds) contracted by 1.11 percent.  
 
 

 

The average farmgate price of broiler meat from January to March 2018 posted a positive growth of 5.68 percent, or about PhP 87.54 per kilogram, liveweight compared to its previous year’s average price of PhP 82.83 per kilogram, liveweight.

This Chicken Situation Report presents the chicken industry in terms of volume of production; inventory by type; and average farmgate prices. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for our various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.
 
Concepts and Definitions:
 
Volume of Production refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for dressing which include animals shipped-out for dressing. This is expressed in thousand metric tons, liveweight.
 
Inventory refers to the actual number of domesticated animals present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
 
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
