From July to September 2018, the total chicken production was registered at 428.77 thousand metric tons. This went up by 4.31 percent compared to the previous year’s same period data. Of the total chicken produced, broiler chicken contributed 79.38 percent.

Most regions recorded increase in chicken production during the 3rd quarter of 2018. CAR, Central Luzon and Zamboanga Peninsula recorded otherwise. Despite the decrease in production, Central Luzon remained the top producing region, contributing 33.84 percent>/n share to total chicken production.

More than half or 61.19 percent of the total chicken produced were from Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao. (Table 1)

 

 

The total inventory of chicken in the country as of 1 October 2018 was estimated at 194.69 million birds. This posted a 7.09 percent increase from the previous year’s 181.79 million birds. Native/improved chicken contributed 42.78 percent to the total chicken inventory. All three types of chicken posted positive growth in inventory with broiler chicken recording the highest increase by 12.63 percent. Native/improved chicken and layer chicken grew by 1.62 percent and 9.71 percent, respectively. Central Luzon, CALABARZON and Northern Mindanao were the top three regions in terms of chicken inventory. (Table 2)

 

 

The average farmgate price of broiler chicken during the 3rd quarter of 2018 was recorded at PhP 87.33 per kilogram, liveweight or 25.66 percent higher compared to its previous year’s average farmgate price.  On the average, broiler chicken price was recorded highest in July at PhP 91.57 pesos per kilogram, liveweight. (Table 3)

 

 

TECHNICAL NOTES

This Chicken Situation Report presents the chicken industry in terms of volume of production,inventory by type, and average farmgate price. The report was prepared to serve as ready reference for PSA’s various clients and stakeholders in the agriculture sector. It is released quarterly in January, May, August and November every year.

 

Concepts and Definitions

Volume of Production refers to the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for slaughter which include animals shipped-out for slaughter. This is expressed in metric tons, liveweight.
Inventory refers to the actual number of domesticated animals present in the farm as of a specific reference date.
Farmgate Price refers to the price received by farmers, livestock and poultry raisers for the sale of their produce at the first point of sale net of freight.
