p align="JUSTIFY"bTotal population rose to 418,710 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Iloilo City, one of the country's highly urbanized cities posted a total population of 418,710 persons as of August 1, 2007. This registered an increase of 52,319 persons over the total population of 366,391 persons in 2000. These figures translated to an annual population growth rate of 1.86 percent for the period 2000 to 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the household population of Iloilo City increased to 414,747 persons from 364,238 persons in 2000. The number of households also rose by 13,185 from 72,333 in 2000 to 85,518 in 2007. The average household size, however, slightly decreased from 5.0 persons in 2000 to 4.9 persons in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bCalumpang was the most populated barangay/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 180 barangays in Iloilo City, Barangay Calumpang contributed 2.6 percent share to the total population of the city. This was followed by Barangay San Juan (2.3 percent) and Balabago (2.0 percent). Barangay Roxas Village (0.03 percent) was the least populated barangay./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0994f1.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females than males/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of Iloilo City's 414,747 household population, 213,728 were females and 201,019 were males, registering a sex ratio of 94 males for every 100 females. The same sex ratio was reported in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age was 25 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The median age of Iloilo City was computed at 25 years in 2007. This means that half of the household population were below 25 years old. The median age in 2000 was 23 years./p p align="JUSTIFY"Persons in age groups 15 to19 years and 20 to 24 years had the highest share to household population with 10.8 percent and 10.2 percent, respectively./p p align="center"img alt="Figure 1" src="http://www.census.gov.ph/data/pressrelease/2009/pr0994f2.gif" //p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males than females in age brackets 0 to 14 years and 30 to 34 years. Females, on the other hand, outnumbered males in age brackets 15 to 29 years and 35 years old and over./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMajority were in the voting-age population/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"About 64.7 percent of the household population belonged to voting-age population (18 years and over). This was slightly higher than the proportion of voting-age population (62.5 percent) reported in 2000. Moreover, the proportion of female voters (52.8 percent) to the total voting population was higher than that of the male voters (47.2 percent) in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bDependency ratio decreased to 52/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The proportion of household population belonging to age group 0 to 14 years was 28.9 percent. Persons aged 65 years and over posted a share of 5.3 percent while the working-age population (15 to 64 years) comprised 65.9 percent of the household population./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio in the city in 2007 was 52. This means that for every 100 persons aged 15 to 64 years, there were about 52 dependents (44 persons 0 to 14 years or young dependents and eight persons aged 65 years and over or old dependents). The dependency ratio in 2007 was lower compared to the 2000 figure of 56./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAlmost half of the household population were single/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, single or never-married persons accounted for 47.6 percent of the household population 10 years old and over, slightly higher than the reported figure of 46.8 percent in 2000. Meanwhile, the proportion of married persons in 2007 was 43.4 percent, almost the same figure posted in 2000 (43.5 percent). The rest (9.1 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over were either widowed, divorced/separated, had common-law/live-in arrangement, or had unknown marital status in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"About four in five (81.3 percent) widowed persons were females. Other categories for marital status also showed higher proportions of females: single, 50.3 percent; married, 50.8 percent; divorced/separated, 67.2 percent; common-law/live-in arrangement, 51.0 percent; and unknown marital status, 55.2 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females pursued higher levels of education/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population five years old and over, 22.5 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 32.5 percent reached high school, 6.5 percent completed post secondary education, 11.2 percent were college undergraduates, 19.5 percent were academic degree holders, and 0.3 percent pursued post baccalaureate education./p p align="JUSTIFY"In general, there were more females than males in all levels of education, except in preschool and elementary levels./p p align="JUSTIFY"Moreover, among the household population 5 to 24 years old, 67.3 percent attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the school attendees, males outnumbered (50.6 percent) their female counterparts (49.4 percent)./p p align="JUSTIFY"b105 households for every 100 occupied housing units/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"A total of 85,518 households resided in 81,250 housing units in Iloilo City. This translated to a ratio of 105 households for every 100 occupied housing units, or a ratio of 5.1 persons per occupied housing unit. In 2000, the ratio of households to occupied housing units was 104 households for every 100 occupied housing units or 5.2 persons per occupied housing unit./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMajority of occupied housing units had roofs made of strong materials/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Approximately nine in every ten (89.1 percent) occupied housing units in Iloilo City had roofs made of galvanized iron/aluminum, up by 4.8 percentage points from the proportion of the same roofing materials in 2000. Meanwhile, about one in three (33.3 percent) of the occupied housing units in 2007 had outer walls made of concrete/brick/stone, indicating an increase of 2.6 percentage points from the 2000 figure./p p align="JUSTIFY" /p p style="text-align: -webkit-left; " /p table border="0" width="100%" tbody tr td colspan="80%" /td td align="CENTER" nowrap="nowrap"(Sgd.) bCARMELITA N.
