pbTotal population increased to 318,577 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"As of August 1, 2007, the total population of Mandaue City was 318,577 persons based on the 2007 Census of Population. This figure is higher by 58,849 persons over its total population of 259,728 persons in 2000. The total population of the city in 2007 translated to an annual population growth rate (PGR) of 2.86 percent for the period 2000 to 2007. This was 3.50 percentage points lower than the annual PGR of 6.36 percent posted for the period 1995 to 2000./p p align="center" /p p align="JUSTIFY"bSubangdaku was the most populated barangay/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Barangay Subangdaku contributed 6.7 percent to the total population of the city, the highest population share among the 27 barangays of Mandaue City. This was followed by barangays Pakna-an and Banilad, each with 6.1 percent share, and barangays Maguikay and Tipolo with 5.6 percent each. On the other hand, barangays Casili and Centro (Pob.) had the least share of 1.1 percent each./p p align="JUSTIFY"bAverage household size remained at 4.7 persons/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"The number of households increased by 23.6 percent from 54,882 in 2000 to 67,850 in 2007. The household population also increased from 259,085 in 2000 to 317,769 in 2007. The figures in 2007 implied an average household size of 4.7 persons, the same average household size reported in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"bSex ratio increased to 99 males per 100 females/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the 317,769 household population in 2007, proportion of males (49.7 percent) was lower than that of the females (50.3 percent). This indicated a sex ratio of 99 males for every 100 females. In 2000, a lower ratio of 98 males per 100 females was observed./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMedian age remained at 22 years/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the household population of Mandaue City had a median age of 22 years, which means that half of the household population was below 22 years old. The same median age was reported in 2000./p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the household population, 33.1 percent belonged to age group 15 to 29 years old while 32.9 percent were under the age of 15 years. The highest proportion was observed in age group 0 to 4 years (12.6 percent)./p p align="center" /p p align="JUSTIFY"There were more males in the household population 0 to 14 years and 30 to 49 years while females outnumbered their male counterparts in the rest of the age groups./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore than 60 percent were of voting age/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Approximately three fifths (60.6 percent) of Mandaue's household population comprised the voting-age population (18 years old and over). Almost the same proportion of voting-age population was reported in 2000 (60.2 percent). The proportion of males (49.0 percent) in the voting-age population was lower than that of the females (51.0 percent) by 2.0 percentage points in 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bOverall dependency ratio decreased to 55 dependents per 100 persons in the working age group/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, the working age group (15 to 64 years) accounted for 64.6 percent of the city's household population. The proportion of young dependents (0 to 14 years) to household population was 32.9 percent while old dependents (65 years and over) posted a share of 2.4 percent./p p align="JUSTIFY"The overall dependency ratio was 54.7, which indicated that there were about 55 dependents (51 young dependents and 4 old dependents) for every 100 persons in the working age group. In 2000, there were 57 dependents (53 young dependents and 4 old dependents) per 100 working-age population./p p align="JUSTIFY"bProportion of married persons decreased/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, persons who were never-married accounted for 47.4 percent of the household population 10 years old and over. This was higher than the proportion of never-married persons observed in 2000 (44.4 percent). The proportion of married persons, meanwhile, was down by 4.8 percentage points from 46.0 percent in 2000 to 41.2 percent in 2007. The rest (11.4 percent) of the household population 10 years old and over in 2007 was either widowed, divorced/separated, in common-law/live-in marital arrangement, or had unknown marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"Males slightly outnumbered females among never-married persons while females dominated the males in the rest of the categories for marital status./p p align="JUSTIFY"bMore females than males attained higher level of education/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the total household population 5 years old and over, 28.8 percent had attended or completed elementary education, 36.8 percent had reached or completed high school, 10.4 percent were college undergraduates, and 11.6 percent were academic degree holders. More females pursued higher levels of education than males, as majority of those with academic degrees (53.4 percent) and post baccalaureate courses (53.1 percent) were females./p p align="JUSTIFY"Among the household population 5 to 24 years old, 57.6 percent attended school at anytime during School Year 2007 to 2008. Of the total females aged 5 to 24 years old, 49.2 percent attended school at anytime during said school year. School attendance for males was 50.8 percent of the total males aged 5 to 24 years old./p p align="JUSTIFY"bNumber of households for every 100 occupied housing units remained at 103/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"In 2007, there were 65,907 occupied housing units, up from the 53,456 occupied housing units reported in 2000. The number of persons per occupied housing unit remained at 4.8 persons, or 103 households for every 100 occupied housing units in 2000 and 2007./p p align="JUSTIFY"bWood was used mostly for outer walls; galvanized iron/aluminum for roofs/b/p p align="JUSTIFY"Of the occupied housing units in Mandaue City, 43.5 percent used wood as construction materials for outer walls. This figure showed a decrease of 0.6 percentage point from the proportion of occupied housing units which used the same material for the outer walls in 2000.
