  •    Value of Production sustains growth in June 2013

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing grew at a slower rate of 1.5 percent from a two-digit increase of 10.6 percent in May 2013, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). This was attributed to the slowdown in the production values for petroleum products. However, the major contributing sectors with significant increases in value of production were chemical products (78.6%) and basic metals (50.6%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

On a month-on-month basis, VaPI likewise increased at a slower rate of 0.8 percent in June 2013. This was primarily due to the two-digit increase in value of production reported by the following: petroleum products (12.7%), wood and wood products (11.4%)  and  tobacco products (11.1%).  Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

  •    Volume of Production likewise posts growth

On a yearly comparison, Volume of Production Index (VoPI) registered an increment of 9.9 percent in June 2013 from the previous month’s two-digit growth of 21.7 percent. This was attributed to the diminished production outputs of petroleum products and electrical machinery. However, three major sectors contributed mainly to the increase in volume of production, namely: chemical products (86.3%), furniture and fixtures (81.0%) and basic metals (71.5%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.

On a month-on-month comparison, VoPI reflected a minimal increase of less than one percent or 0.8 percent in June 2013. Two of the 14 major sectors that mainly influenced the growth were: tobacco products (11.1%) and wood and wood products (10.3%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.

  •    Value of Net Sales grows further in June 2013

Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI), on a year-on-year basis improved to 12.8 percent in June 2013 compared with 8.2 percent growth in the previous month. This was attributed to the increase in sales volume exhibited by five major sectors, with significant expansion observed in chemical products that posted a three-digit growth of 123.7 percent, followed by other four major sectors that posted two-digit increments, namely: furniture and fixtures (66.5%), basic metals (46.9%), tobacco products (26.6%) and textiles (18.4%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.

On a monthly basis, VaNSI also accelerated as it posted a month-on-month growth of 3.3 percent in June 2013. This was primarily due to the two-digit increases in sales value of chemical products (11.7%), outpacing the two-digit decrements of 2 major sectors. Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.

  •    Volume of Net Sales continues to accelerate

Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) exhibited a two-digit annual increment of 22.1 percent. This was consistently accounted by the three-digit growth in sales output observed for furniture and fixtures (209.9%) and chemical products (133.3%). Other major sectors that also significantly contributed to the increase were the following: basic metals (67.2%), tobacco products (36.2%), rubber and plastic products (22.2%) and textiles (18.3%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.

VoNSI, on a month-on-month comparison, slightly grew 3.3 percent in June 2013. Of the 11 major sectors that exhibited growth, three reported two-digit increases, namely: furniture and fixtures (12.4%), chemical products (11.1%), and miscellaneous manufactures (10.1%). Refer  to  Tables 2-B and 4.

  •    Capacity Utilization in June 2013 is 83.2 percent

Average capacity utilization in June 2013 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.2 percent. Fifty percent of the 20 major sectors registered capacity utilization rates of 80 percent or more.  These were:

  • petroleum products (88.5%)
  • basic metals (87.0%)
  • non-metallic mineral products (85.7%)
  • machinery except electrical (84.6%)
  • electrical machinery (84.4%)
  • food manufacturing (83.9%)
  • chemical products (82.5%)
  • rubber and plastic products (82.2%)
  • paper and paper products (81.8%)
  • wood and wood products (81.2%)

The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 22.6 percent in June 2013. About 55.1 percent of the establishments operated at 70% to 89% capacity while 22.3 percent of the establishments operated below 70% capacity. Refer to Table 6.
