  •    Value of Production Index posts increments in June 2014

Value of Production Index (VaPI) for manufacturing rose to 10.1 percent   in June 2014 compared to 0.8 percent in June 2013. The increase was pushed by the three-digit expansion of printing (153.8%) and the two-digit growth of eight sectors. These were the following: leather products (44.4%), fabricated metal products (35.2%), food manufacturing (18.6%), textiles (18.0%), transport equipment (17.9%), basic metals (17.9%), machinery except electrical (15.4%) and beverages (13.8%)  Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.

  •    Volume of Production Index expands in June 2014

Volume of Production Index (VoPI), likewise recorded a year-on-year growth of 13.3 percent in June 2014 compared with 8.9 percent during the same month last year. Significant expansion in factory output were observed in ten sectors led by printing with an increase of 153.8 percent. Other sectors with two-digit annual rates were: leather products (40.5%), fabricated metal products (39.8%), machinery except electrical (26.7%), furniture and fixtures (26.7%), basic metals (24.4%), transport equipment (19.8%), textiles (15.4%) and food manufacturing (13.1%) Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.

  •    Value of Net Sales Index gains slowly in June 2014

Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI), continued to increase, slowing down to 7.9 percent in June 2014 compared with 12.0 percent in June 2013.  This was primarily brought about by the 147.2 percent growth registered by printing followed by six other sectors which also posted double-digit increases namely: fabricated metal products (47.9%), textiles (39.9%), transport equipment (29.6%), petroleum products (26.4%), basic metals (24.0%) and leather products (20.2%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.

  •    Volume of Net Sales Index also rises in June 2014

Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) was not able to outpace its year ago figure reflecting a growth of 11.1 percent in June 2014 from 21.0 percent in June 2013. Sectors largely contributing to the improved sales performance were: printing (147.2%), fabricated metal products (52.9%), textiles (36.8%), furniture and fixtures (34.3%), transport equipment (31.6%), basic metals (30.9%), petroleum products (24.1%), leather products (17.0%) and machinery except electrical (15.0%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.

  •    Capacity Utilization in June 2014 is 83.4 percent

Average capacity utilization in June 2014 for total manufacturing stood at 83.4 percent. More than 50 percent or eleven of the 20 major industries operated at 80 percent and above capacity utilization rates. These are:

  • petroleum products (88.9%)
  • basic metals (88.4%)
  • non-metallic mineral products (86.2%)
  • machinery except electrical (84.6%)
  • food manufacturing (84.5 %)
  • electrical machinery (84.5%)
  • chemical products (83.9%)
  • paper and paper products (82.8%)
  • rubber and plastic products (82.4%)
  • publishing and printing (81.9%)
  • wood and wood products (81.4%)

The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 23.3 percent in June 2014. About 57.9 percent of the establishments operated at 70% to 89% capacity while 18.8 percent of the establishments operated below 70% capacity. Refer to Table 6 and B.
