- Value of Production Index maintains an increasing trend
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry on a year-on-year basis rose by 11.7 percent in March 2005, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Eight (8) major sectors which contributed to the growth were the following: petroleum products, transport equipment, leather products, chemical products, textile, furniture and fixtures, non-metallic mineral products and footwear and wearing apparel.Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
On a month-on-month basis, VaPI grew by 3.4 percent in March 2005. Significant growth was brought about by four (4) major sectors: machinery excluding electrical, transport equipment, leather products and beverage.Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index (VoPI) moves upward
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) posted a year-on-year increase of 2.8 percent in March 2005. Double-digit increases were noted in transport equipment, petroleum products, furniture and fixtures, textile, miscellaneous manufactures and leather products. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-B.
On a month-on-month basis, VoPI in March 2005 went up by 2.5 percent with the following major sectors contributing to the growth: transport equipment, machinery excluding electrical and leather products. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-B.
- Value of Net Sales remains in upward shift
Value of Net Sales in March 2005 posted a growth of 4.6 percent compared to a year ago figure. Major sectors that significantly contributed to the increase were: transport equipment, petroleum products, non-metallic mineral products, textiles, basic metals and fabricated metal products. Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
Likewise, Value of Net Sales on a month-on-month basis went up by 10.0 percent. Tobacco led other major sectors with a growth of 64.5 percent. Double-digit increases were also noted in the following major sectors: beverage, non-metallic mineral products, transport equipment, machinery excluding electrical, footwear and wearing apparel, rubber products, basic metals and petroleum products.Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales keeps on decreasing
Volume of Net Sales on a year-on-year basis dropped by 6.1 percent in March 2005. Major sectors that contributed much to the decline were the following: machinery excluding electrical, tobacco, wood and wood products, chemical products, fabricated metal products and petroleum products.Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
However, on a monthly basis, Volume of Net Sales registered a growth of 8.8 percent. Tobacco led other major sectors with 64.5 percent. Other major sectors that contributed to the growth were: miscellaneous manufactures, transport equipment, non-metallic mineral products, beverage, rubber products, and basic metals.Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
Producer's Price Index (PPI) continues to increase
Producer's Price Index (PPI) for total manufacturing registered a year-on-year increase of 8.7 percent in March 2005. Sectors with double-digit increases were: petroleum products, tobacco, fabricated metal products, basic metals, chemical products, footwear and wearing apparel, non-metallic mineral products, publishing and printing and machinery excluding electrical.Refer to Table 5..
PPI on a monthly basis increased by 0.9 percent in March 2005. The top five sectors that posted significant increases were the following: machinery excluding electrical, footwear and wearing apparel, petroleum products, beverage and fabricated metal products. Refer to Table 5.
