- Value of Production Index sustains double-digit growth
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing industry on a year-on-year basis reflected an increase of 12.9 percent in November 2005 compared with the year-ago figure, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). Petroleum products registered the biggest increase among the sectors with an increment of 50.4 percent. Other sectors which registered double-digit growth were the following: chemical products, furniture and fixtures, non-metallic mineral products, tobacco, fabricated metal products, rubber products and textiles. Refer to Tables 1-A and 1. 1.
On the other hand, VaPI a month-on-month basis dipped by 3.3 percent in November 2005. This was brought about by decreases in production of eleven (11) major sectors. . Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index (VoPI) posts positive rate
On a year-on-year basis, Volume of Production Index (VoPI) gained by 4.0 percent in November 2005 mainly due to significant expansions in factory output registered by eight (8) sectors, namely: furniture and fixtures, petroleum products, fabricated metal products, chemical products, rubber products, non-metallic mineral products, textiles and tobacco. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-B.
On a monthly basis, VoPI went down by 2.5 percent in November 2005. The ten (10) major sectors that contributed to the decline in production were miscellaneous manufactures, footwear and wearing apparel, electrical machinery, machinery excluding electrical, chemical products, food manufacturing, textiles, basic metals, transport equipment and leather products. Refer to Tables 2 and 1-B.
- Value of Net Sales still on its uptrend
Value of Net Sales in November 2005 continued to grow by 8.2 percent compared to the year-ago figure. Sectors observed to have sales expansion were the following: furniture and fixtures, petroleum products, chemical products, leather products and tobacco. Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
On a monthly basis, Net Sales registered a decline of 4.3 percent in November 2005. Seventeen (17) major sectors registered decreases in sales value, led by rubber products and transport equipment. Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales moves up
Net Sales Volume in November 2005 recovered by 2.1 percent compared to the year-ago level. Major sectors that contributed significantly to the increase were the following: furniture and fixtures, petroleum products, chemical products and footwear and wearing apparel. Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
However, Volume of Net Sales on a month-on-month comparison slumped by 2.8 percent in November 2005, which was brought about by the decreases in sales volume in fifteen (15) major sectors. Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
Producer's Price Index (PPI) keeps positive growth
Producer's Price Index (PPI) for manufacturing posted an increase of 8.5 percent in November 2005 from a double-digit growth of (revised) 10.2 percent during the previous month. Significant price increases were exhibited in the following sectors: machinery excluding electrical, publishing and printing, petroleum products and basic metals Refer to Table 5.
PPI on a monthly comparison fell by 0.8 percent in November 2005. Decreases in producer's prices were observed in the following sectors: petroleum products, transport equipment, miscellaneous manufactures, furniture and fixtures, electrical machinery, food manufacturing, chemical products, textiles, wood and wood products and machinery excluding electrical. Refer to Table 5.
- Capacity Utilization
Average capacity utilization in November 2005 for total manufacturing was estimated at 80.3 percent. Sectors that registered more than 80% capacity utilization rates were the following: machinery excluding electrical, petroleum products, electrical machinery, paper and paper products, miscellaneous manufactures, rubber products, leather products, basic metals, food manufacturing, chemical products and textiles. Refer to Table 6..
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90%-100%) was 10.4 percent in November 2005. More than half or 56.8 percent of the establishments operated at 70%-89% capacity and 32.8 percent of the establishments operated below 70% capacity.

Starting 2004, weights for the Producer's Price Index (PPI) are based from the results of the 2000 Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI) for establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over. Reference year for the 2000 CPBI is 1999. Refer to Press Release on Revision of 2004 PPI weights..
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
