- Value of Production Index remains robust in November 2013
Value of Production Index (VaPI) for the manufacturing continued to pick up as it reported a year-on-year increase of 16.2 percent in November 2013 inspite of the catastrophe that befell the country during this month, according to the preliminary results of the Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI). This can be attributed to the consistent expansion in production value registered by chemical products with an annual increase of 190.1 percent. Moreover, eight major sectors with double-digit increases also pulled-up the VaPI, namely: furniture and fixtures (59.6%), leather products (35.1%), machinery except electrical (32.6%), beverages (25.7%), tobacco products (24.8%), basic metals (20.5%), wood and wood products (12.4%), and rubber and plastic products (11.8%). Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
VaPI, on a month-on-month comparison, reported a slower increment of 1.6 percent in November 2013. This was accounted for by seven major sectors which recorded growths in VaPI, offsetting the decreases reported by 13 major sectors. Refer to Tables 1-A and 1.
- Volume of Production Index accelerates more in November 2013
Volume of Production Index (VoPI) further rose in November 2013 registering a two-digit annual growth of 21.3 percent. This was brought about by the three-digit growth experienced by chemical products (203.1%) and furniture and fixtures (147.3%). Double-digit growths in VoPI were also recorded by six other major sectors, namely: machinery except electrical (43.4%), tobacco products (34.6%), leather products (33.5%), basic metals (32.9%), rubber and plastic products (21.4%), beverages (19.5%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
On a monthly basis, however, VoPI reflected a minimal increase of 0.8 percent growth in November 2013. This is explained by the better performances in production output in the following major sectors: beverages (25.3%), paper and paper products (12.8%), and chemical products (11.1%). Refer to Tables 1-B and 2.
- Value of Net Sales Index strides up in November 2013
Value of Net Sales Index (VaNSI), on a year-on-year basis, consistently grew 32.2 percent in November 2013. Eleven major sectors mainly influenced the growth led by chemical products, with three-digit growth of 244.8 percent. The ten other major sectors that contributed to the significant performance of VaNSI were furniture and fixtures (58.5%), tobacco products (45.3%), leather products (39.8%), machinery except electrical (29.1%), textiles (27.0%), publishing and printing (22.1%), rubber and plastic products (15.1%), wood and wood products (14.0%), fabricated metal products (10.7%), and petroleum products (10.6%). Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
On a monthly basis, VaNSI gained 2.3 percent in November 2013. This was due to the increase in VaNSI exhibited by seven major sectors, outpacing the overall decrease reported by 13 major sectors. Refer to Tables 2-A and 3.
- Volume of Net Sales Index continues to grow
Volume of Net Sales Index (VoNSI) also expanded, posting 38.0 percent growth in November 2013. Thirteen major sectors accounted for the growth in VoNSI led by chemical products and furniture and fixtures that posted the largest increase of 260.3 percent and 145.5 percent, respectively. Other major sectors that exhibited two-digit increases were the following: tobacco products (56.7%), machinery except electrical (39.6%), leather products (38.1%), rubber and plastic products (25.0%), textiles (24.6%), basic metals (18.1%), fabricated metals (14.6%), and publishing and printing (12.0%), and wood and wood products (10.3%). Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
On a month-on-month change, VoNSI posted a slower increment of 1.5 percent in November 2013. This was due to the increases in VoNSI observed in seven major sectors, outpacing the decreases reported by 13 major sectors. Refer to Tables 2-B and 4.
- Capacity Utilization in November 2013 is 83.4 percent
Average capacity utilization in November 2013 for total manufacturing was recorded at 83.4 percent. More than 50 percent or eleven of the 20 major sectors registered capacity utilization rates of above 80 percent. These are:
- petroleum products (89.0%)
- basic metals (87.8%)
- non-metallic mineral products (86.2%)
- electrical machinery (84.7%)
- machinery except electrical (84.6%)
- food manufacturing (84.6%)
- chemical products (83.9%)
- paper and paper products (83.4%)
- rubber and plastic products (82.6%)
- wood and wood products (81.2%)
- publishing and printing (81.2%)
The proportion of establishments that operated at full capacity (90% to 100%) was 22.9 percent in November 2013. About 54.7 percent of the establishments operated at 70% to 89% capacity while 22.4 percent of the establishments operated below 70% capacity. Refer to Table 6.
