- Producer Price Index slows down in April 2015
Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for manufacturing fell by 5.4 percent in April 2015 compared with the flat growth in the same period a year ago. This was brought about by the double-digit decreases reflected by four sectors namely: furniture and fixtures(-21.5%), chemical products (-20.2%), petroleum products (-19.7%) and wood and wood products (-11.5%). Moreover, the continued decline in prices of gasoline, diesel, kerosene, LPG and other petroleum products resulted in the negative annual rate of the heavily weighted petroleum products since August 2014, thereby contributing much to the negative performance of the April 2014 PPI. . On the other hand, six of the twenty major sectors registered single-digit increases led by tobacco products (7.2%). Refer to Tables 1 and A-1.
On a monthly basis, PPI decelerated by 0.1 percent in April 2015 after moving up by 0.4 percent a month earlier. Eleven sectors led by wood and wood products (-2.2%) pulled down the monthly PPI. Furthermore, three sectors posted flat growths while six sectors reflected increases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-2.
