- Producer Price Index decelerates at a slower rate in April 2016
The Producer Price Index (PPI, 2000=100) for manufacturing declined by 3.3 percent in April 2016, showing an improvement from the 8.0 percent decline during the same period last year. The decrements reflected by eleven sectors pulled down the PPI particularly the double-digit decreases of two heavily-weighted sectors namely: machinery except electrical (-17.6%) and basic metals (-10.4%). On the other hand, miscellaneous manufactures (6.4%) led the eight major sectors that posted increases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-1.
On a monthly basis, in contrast, the PPI grew by 0.3 percent in April 2016 from a drop of 1.0 percent in March 2016. This was due to the increments recorded by 12 sectors led by Furniture and fixtures (6.5%). Moreover, one sector exhibited flat growth and seven sectors posted decreases. Refer to Tables 1 and A-2.

- Introduction
- Method of Index Computation
- Industry Coverage
Starting with January 2013 reference month, the PPI utilizes the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC) to classify sectors and industries. Selected industry classes of the 2009 PSIC were grouped to form the 20 industry groupings of the 2016 PPS. These are presented in the table below.
