· Producer Price Index (PPI) maintains two-digit growth
Producer Price Index (PPI) for the manufacturing industry maintained its two-digit year-on-year increase, registering 14.3 percent in August 2006. Significant price increases were observed in seventeen (17) major sectors, with two-digit growth observed in the following: electrical machinery, machinery excluding electrical, leather products, footwear and wearing apparel, rubber products, petroleum products and non-metallic mineral products. However, PPI on monthly basis declined, but at a slower rate of 0.8 percent in August 2006. The price increases observed in the eleven (11) major sectors were offset by the price decreases noted in the nine (9) major sectors. Petroleum products contributed a notable decline of 5.7 percent. · Response Rate
The response rate for August 2006 is 91.4 percent, which corresponds to the retrieval of 245 sample establishments� reports. Refer to Table 2.

· Technical Notes
Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.
Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
