  • Producer Price Index (PPI) increases but at a slower rate

The Producer Price Index (PPI) posted a 2.1 percent increase in November 2007 from its year-ago figure. Three out of ten (10) major sectors registered double-digit growth, namely: publishing and printing (20.9%), petroleum products (14.3%) and basic metals (13.6%). Seven (7) other sectors posted one-digit increase led by leather products at 7.0 percent. However, decreases in the PPI were also observed in ten (10) major sectors led by miscellaneous manufactures (-15.4%) and furniture and fixtures (-14.3%). Refer to Tables 1 and 1-A.

On the other hand, PPI on a monthly basis dropped by 0.3 percent in November 2007. This was brought about by the price decreases in the following major sectors: miscellaneous manufactures, transport equipment, furniture and fixtures, basic metals, electrical machinery, footwear and wearing apparel, textiles, food manufacturing and wood and wood products Refer to Tables 1 and 1-B.

  • Technical Notes

Beginning the 2007 monthly issues, the 2000 based series of the PPI are released simultaneously with the 1994 based series. The 2000 based series for 2001 to 2006 were earlier made available in a separate Special Release.

Weights for the PPI are based from the results of the 2003 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) for manufacturing establishments with average total employment (ATE) of 20 and over.

Data of non-responding sample establishments are estimated based on previous records and other available sources. Revisions to the preliminary estimates are done upon receipt of actual reports of late respondents.
